Khonsa
Khonsa, a tiny hill station in a valley surrounded by the Himalayas, is the headquarters of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh. Created during the British period, it was one of the five earliest districts of the state. Khonsa borders Myanmar to the east and Assam to the south. Surrounded by panoramic views of thick forests fringed by hills, this town is a paradise for visitors. Streams, deep gorges, dense forests, and snow-clad hills add to its spectacular beauty. The forests host wildlife like Tigers, Leopards, Jackals, Wild boars, Bears, Barking deer, Red Panda, Musk Deer, Mithun, and many rodents. White gibbon monkeys can be seen swinging from branches. Adventure lovers can enjoy exhilarating treks through dense forests. In April, rare orchids bloom, delighting visitors. The local culture is vibrant, with tribal festivals, fairs, and exquisite handicrafts. Tribes craft jewelry from beads, headgears, elephant tusks, and other unique artifacts.
Khonsa Museum
Khonsa Museum, established in 1956, is situated in Khonsa town, Tirap District. It houses amazing artifacts representing the district’s diverse culture. Visitors can see swords, other weapons, handlooms, and cultural artifacts from various parts of India. The museum also displays different types of cane and bamboo works, showcasing the rich craftsmanship of the region.
